I’m sure you will find this message most unusual (hopefully not too weird!). 

During this current time of new challenges with our business I took time to look back at some the the ways we navigated prior challenges and wanted to send this message of  thanks!

I’m sure working through a sales tax audit for most people is just that, “work”. For me it was a gut wrenching time with sleepless nights, visions of $200K tax assessments and the bankruptcy of our business. Obviously I’m someone who finds it hard to see the glass half full.

As a CPA who has always stood strong on ethics and ”just doing the right thing”, I was paralyzed by the initial thoughts that I had failed by not keeping all the right records and/or not understanding or correctly applying the law.  

My anxieties were further deepened by the concern that I had not made the right choice in hiring you as a consultant.  $4,800 out the door to someone I did not really know.  What I discovered though is that you are a fighter and that was what we needed.

I wanted to write this letter of gratitude to you for the wonderful job you did for our company during our recent sales tax audit.  

I had never been through an audit before and had no idea what to expect.  When I visited with you on the telephone before I hired you, I was impressed with the fact that you answered all my questions, without hesitation, and had a clear understanding of what was involved in an audit and what I could expect.  You advised me how to gather the information and you were here the first day of the audit to help in any way you could and also, several days throughout the audit.  You acted as a liaison between me and the Auditor due to the fact that I did not understand a lot of what she was talking about nor what documentation I needed to prove we did not owe the additional taxes.  

When the audit was completed, the Auditor gave me a report that showed we owed several hundred thousand dollars in taxes.  Of course, I panicked and you assured me not to worry and we would work together to get the amount down.  When all was said and done, we owed less than $7,000.00, including penalties.  I could not have been happier.  I would be very glad to recommend you to anyone going through an audit.  You have the experience, knowledge and expertise to handle any given circumstance and I would not hesitate to tell anyone that asked me, to hire you to represent them.  They will not be sorry.
